Everybody loves a happy ending

Everybody loves a happy ending, especially when it comes to horses who have nowhere else to turn.

At the Georgia Equine Rescue League (GERL), we are a foster-based rescue able to support fewer than 20 horses in our direct care at any given time. Because of this, our top priority is assisting horses coming from law enforcement cases. But thanks to the generosity of our supporters, our impact reaches far beyond those numbers.

In 2025, GERL actively helped an additional 15 horses find safe, permanent homes. While these horses may not enter our foster program, GERL often serves as the critical link—creating and sharing rehoming flyers through our social media outlets, coordinating potential adopters, and, in many cases, providing transportation when owners are unable to do so themselves.

Sometimes, help is needed long before a new home is found. There are situations where horses must be supported for weeks or even months while the rehoming process unfolds. During that time, GERL may step in to provide feed and hay through our Crisis Intervention Program, using donor-funded resources to ensure the horses are healthy and cared for before we can safely advocate for them.

You may remember Baby Rex, an older gelding whose world was turned upside down when his family was tragically killed in an airplane crash. Left without anyone to care for him long-term, Baby Rex needed more than luck—he needed help. GERL ensured he was placed in a loving forever home, providing both a farm visit and transportation to make that happy ending possible.

More recently, GERL was asked to assist horses abandoned on a large, foreclosed equine estate. The horses were fearful and difficult to handle, requiring multiple trips to deliver feed and hay. GERL even secured an old stall and paddock area to make handling safer and give these horses a real chance at recovery and rehoming.

These are the moments your support makes possible.

There is no greater reward than receiving photos from new owners—seeing horses we once worried over now thriving, loved, and cherished in their forever homes. Every bag of feed, every mile driven, every hour spent coordinating care happens because compassionate donors like you believe every horse deserves a chance.

And, let me say this about that…You are the reason these happy endings happen!
