Help A Horse Day 2018
Welcome to the Georgia Equine Rescue League’s (GERL) 2018 HelpAHorse Celebration!
GERL is participating in the ASPCA’s national HelpAHorse Day contest for grant funds: April 26th through June 30th this year. The nationwide competition includes rescues, shelters and animal control agencies that adopt out equines and is designed to raise awareness of the year-round lifesaving work done to find homes for horses. During the eight week competition for grant awards, GERL will promote its adoptable horses, raise public awareness of our collaborative work with the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) and will host a one day event on June 2, 2018 at the GDA Equine Care Facility, 2834 Marben Farm Road, Mansfield GA 30055. This exciting day will highlight GDA’s rehabilitated horses available for auction as well as horses available for adoption through GERL.
GERL believes we all have dreams: this includes those horses whose lives have been marred by neglect, starvation or unspeakable abuse. The theme GERL has chosen this year is “What Horses Dream”. Dream along with us as we work towards a better world for everyone.
“What Horses Dream” is what we would like to think all horses dream about. A life with someone who would love and care for them always, like the story of a little girl discovering a neglected horse who starts dreaming about a lifetime with her.

How to help GERL during the campaign
There are four areas in which we will compete with other horse rescues for grant prizes that we can use to fund our programs:
- Number of adoptions and commitments to adopt during the contest period
- Fundraising during the adoption period
- Adoption Campaign during the contest period
- Video Submission
During the contest period from April 26th through June 30th 2018 you can help GERL by:
- Attending the Roundoak Spring Ride on April 27-29, 2018
- Following and sharing the GERL Facebook page and the “What Horses Dream” Facebook group
- Sharing the hashtag #whathorsesdream in your social media posts about this event
- Liking, sharing and commenting on posts about the GERL adoptable horses
- Adopting one of the GERL adoptable horses
- Making a Commitment to Adopt a horse from GERL in the next 12 months
- Making a donation
- Becoming a GERL member
- Volunteering to help during our June 2 event
Adoptable horses and commitment to adopt
Check out the GERL adoptable horses.
You will have a chance to meet some of them in person at the event.
To demonstrate your commitment to adopt a horse from GERL within the next 12 months, complete the Commitment to Adopt form and make a nonrefundable deposit of $150. This deposit will be applied toward the adoption fee of one of the GERL adoptable horses.
Help A Horse Day Celebration Event
Mark your calendars for a day of adoptions, presentations, education, and fun on June 2, 2018 at the GDA Equine Care Facility, 2834 Marben Farm Road, Mansfield GA 30055.
We will have presentations by renowned horse trainers, vendors booths, concessions, games, raffles, prizes, silent auction, and used tack sale.
Our adoptable horses will be on site so you can meet them.

Volunteer Opportunities
We would like your help to make this campaign and the event a success for horses. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who want to be part of a community of horse lovers wanting to make a difference in the lives of horses at risk in GA.

Vendors/Exhibitors
Attention vendors! We will have space for some vendors at the Help a Horse Day Celebration Event. We would love to include your product or service at this event, which will be held on Saturday, June 2 2018 in Mansfield GA.

With such an affordable vendor registration fee, GERL suggests each participant donate one item or service opportunity to our Silent Auction as a way to help us raise money to help horses in need. We are deeply appreciative.
Donating to HelpAHorse Day
The Help a Horse Day Celebration Event will raise money to supplement GERL’s continued care and efforts to support the horses impounded and cared for lovingly by the GDA staff and volunteers. We need individuals and businesses who would be willing to donate any amount to help us cover the expenses for this event. Of course, everything is appreciated: volunteer offers, gift cards, one-time honorariums, or in-kind contributions.
GERL is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, meaning that all donations are tax deductible. Your donation, whatever the size or form, will enable us to continue the ever-important mission of caring for starved, neglected and abused horses.
